How Pizza luce Began

Pizza luce was born in 2008 from a simple belief: great pizza luce deserves honest ingredients, a wood-fired soul, and a warm community around it. Founders Marco and Elena Russo arrived in Charlotte, NC from Naples, Italy carrying nothing but a cherished family recipe and an unshakeable drive to share authentic Italian flavors with the American South.

What started as a tiny 10-table trattoria on Tryon Street quickly became Charlotte's beloved neighborhood pizzeria. Word spread fast — the kind of word-of-mouth that only genuine food and genuine hospitality can earn. Today, pizzaluce serves thousands of guests each month, yet every pie is still hand-stretched to order, just as it was on day one.

Our dough ferments for 48 hours. Our tomatoes are San Marzano. Our mozzarella is pulled fresh daily. These are not marketing lines — they are the non-negotiable standards that define who we are and why people keep coming back.

Our Mission & Core Values

Our luce pizza philosophy goes beyond the oven — it's about people, planet, and the pure pleasure of exceptional food made right.

Fresh Ingredients

We source seasonal, locally-grown produce whenever possible and import premium Italian staples for an authentic, vibrant flavour in every bite.

Craft & Passion

Every pizza luce is hand-stretched, wood-fired, and finished with care. We believe that the best food is made by people who genuinely love what they do.

Community First

Pizza luce is Charlotte. We partner with local farms, sponsor neighbourhood events, and give back to the community that has given so much to us.

Consistent Quality

Whether it's your first slice or your hundredth, the standard never wavers. We train every team member to uphold the same exacting quality on every shift.

The pizzaluce Difference

There are plenty of pizza restaurants in Charlotte. But pizzaluce stands apart because we refuse to cut corners — on ingredients, technique, or hospitality. Here's what makes us the city's first choice for handcrafted pizza luce:

  • 48-Hour Fermented Dough Slow fermentation creates a light, airy, easily digestible crust with complex flavour — the true foundation of any great pizza.
  • Authentic Wood-Fired Oven Our imported Neapolitan oven hits 900°F, creating the characteristic leopard-spotted crust in just 90 seconds per pie.
  • Locally Sourced Toppings We partner with local Carolina farms for fresh vegetables, herbs, and proteins, reducing food miles and supporting our community.
  • Fast, Careful Delivery Our insulated delivery system keeps every pizza at perfect temperature from our oven to your door — never soggy, always fresh.
  • Award-Winning Recipe Recognised as Charlotte's best Neapolitan pizza multiple years running — a validation of our team's daily commitment to excellence.
